Security Officers For EaDo Properties

Reliable Guard & Patrol Service Inc. provides armed and unarmed security officers for construction sites, warehouses, vacant buildings, office buildings, stores and shopping centers in East Downtown Houston (EaDo). Our 150 officers work more than 100 sites around Houston. The company holds Texas Department of Public Safety license B07315701, and our owner has 20 years of experience in the security industry.

EaDo sits across I-69 from Downtown, around Shell Energy Stadium on Texas Avenue. Its blocks mix warehouses from the neighborhood’s industrial past, apartment and townhome construction, and offices. Each of those needs different coverage, so we set the hours, the patrol route and the officer type with you, property by property.

Our officers control gates and entrances, patrol on foot or by vehicle, check doors, fences and storage areas, and log what they find. Each officer stays on your property for the whole shift. We don’t run multi-site patrol routes.

How I-45 Construction Affects EaDo Properties

TxDOT’s I-45 project is moving the freeway to run beside I-69 along the line between Downtown and EaDo. Buildings in its path have come down, including the Graffiti Park buildings on Leeland Street, demolished in June 2025, and some nearby businesses have closed or moved. The full project is expected to run until about 2042.

That leaves 2 kinds of EaDo property that need watching. Buildings waiting for demolition or a new tenant draw break-ins, squatters, copper theft and illegal dumping. Job sites hold tools, equipment and materials that disappear after crews leave.

For a vacant building, our officer walks rounds of the property, checks doors and windows, watches for anyone trying to get in, documents the building’s condition and reports damage or safety problems to you. For a construction site, the officer controls the gate, verifies workers and deliveries, watches stored equipment and materials, and patrols the fence line once the crew leaves.

We also cover the neighborhoods around EaDo, including Downtown, the East End and Second Ward.

From First Call To First Shift

1. Call us. Tell us the address, the hours you need covered and what you’re protecting. We respond the same day.

2. Get a free proposal. We send a written proposal with the officer type, the schedule and the rate. For some properties we walk the site first to look at gates, fences, lighting and entry points.

3. Officers start. Your officers arrive on the agreed date with post instructions we set with you. Full-time officers work 40-hour weeks, and we add part-time officers where a post needs more hours.

4. We supervise and adjust. Your dedicated account supervisor checks in on the post and changes the coverage when your site changes, for example when a building empties or a new construction phase starts.

From Our Incident Reports

These summaries come from incident reports our officers filed at sites we protect around Houston. Client names and addresses are left out.

Copper wire, 3:30 a.m., construction site. On a scheduled round, the officer found a storage container that had been tampered with and a person pulling out rolls of copper wire. The officer called police, kept watch from a safe distance and updated dispatch. When police arrived, the suspect dropped the wire and ran but was caught by the responding officers. The wire went back to site management.

Materials at the fence, 11:40 p.m., construction site. The officer saw 2 people carrying construction materials toward the perimeter fence in a dark part of the site, lit the area with a spotlight and called out to them. They dropped the materials and ran. The officer secured the area and notified police and site management, and an inventory check confirmed nothing was missing.

Boarded window, 1:45 a.m., vacant commercial building. On a patrol round, the officer saw 2 people trying to force open a boarded window by the rear entrance. The officer called dispatch and police and switched on the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights. They left before getting inside. The only damage was to the window covering, and the officer notified the owner.

Loading dock, 11:20 p.m., distribution warehouse. After hours, the officer found an unauthorized vehicle by the loading docks and a person trying to get into a secured storage area. The officer called dispatch and the site supervisor, identified himself and told the person to leave. The person left without incident, and a follow-up check found no forced entry, damage or missing inventory.

Officers file reports like these in real time, and our GPS guard tour system records each patrol round, so you can see what happened on your site overnight.

How We Vet And Train Our Officers

Before an officer works your post, we run a background check, a drug test and a Texas license verification, call references and interview the officer against our company standards.

Texas splits security officers into 2 types. Unarmed officers are non-commissioned and complete Level II training. Armed officers are commissioned, which takes Level III training, a handgun proficiency exam and a psychological test, and our armed officers requalify on firearms proficiency every 2 years. Our guide to armed security guard training requirements covers the details.

An unarmed officer fits most commercial posts, including job site gates, vacant buildings and office lobbies. An armed officer is worth the higher rate at sites with cash on hand, high-value inventory or a real threat of violence. Texas law limits what any officer may do on your property, and our guide to security guard use of force explains those limits.

We staff officers who speak English and Spanish, and our insurance covers general liability, workers’ compensation and commercial auto.

Common Questions About East Downtown Security Services

Which EaDo properties do you cover?

Construction sites, warehouses, vacant buildings, office buildings, stores and shopping centers. We don’t provide event security, residential or HOA security, K-9 units, alarm response, parking enforcement or fire watch.

Do I need a long-term contract?

No. You can book coverage by the week, month to month, or for a short or long project. Before you sign with any company, check the contract clauses that matter.

How fast can you start?

We respond the same day you call. Once you approve the free proposal, and after a site walk for some properties, we set your start date. We can send your certificate of insurance the same day you ask for it.

What does a security guard cost in EaDo?

It depends on the hours, the number of posts and whether the officer is armed. A 24/7 post runs 730 hours a month and takes 4 full-time officers plus part-time hours to cover without overtime. Our Houston security guard cost guide shows how a rate is built, and your free proposal gives you the number for your site.

Do I need a guard at the gate or one who patrols?

It depends on where the risk sits. A post at the gate or lobby fits while people and deliveries come and go. A roving officer fits an empty site at night, when trouble can come from any side, which is why vacant buildings need one. Busy sites use both, and our guide to roving vs static guards explains how to choose.
