Weekend site security puts a licensed officer on your Houston job site from the time your last crew leaves on Friday until the first one arrives on Monday. Reliable Guard & Patrol Service Inc. covers that window as nights only or as a single continuous 60-hour post, booked by the week with no long-term contract. Texas DPS license B07315701. About 150 officers, English and Spanish spoken, GPS-logged rounds, and in most cases an officer on site the same day you call.
Your site sits empty for 60 hours every weekend
Say your last crew leaves at 6 p.m. Friday and the first one rolls in at 6 a.m. Monday. That’s 60 hours with nobody on site, 36% of the week in 1 unbroken block.
Weeknights add up to less. Monday through Thursday nights come to 48 hours at 12 hours each, and every one of them ends with a crew at the gate by morning, so a loss turns up within hours. The weekend has no morning crew until Monday. A truck that rolls through your gate at 11 p.m. Friday gets 55 hours before anyone on your payroll opens the Conex.
Holiday weekends run 84 to 108 hours
A holiday stretches the block. A Monday holiday such as Labor Day adds 24 hours, for 84 from Friday 6 p.m. to Tuesday 6 a.m.
Thanksgiving week runs longer still. If your site shuts down Thursday and Friday, nobody is on it from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Monday: 108 hours, which in 2026 means Nov 25 to Nov 30. Christmas Day 2026 and New Year’s Day 2027 both fall on a Friday, so a site closed for either holiday sits empty from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Monday, 84 hours each time. Put those dates on your first proposal, so the post order and call tree are set before the holiday week starts.
The Weekend Coverage Ladder
Weekend construction site security comes in 3 sizes. Start on the lowest rung your site allows, and climb the week something on it changes.
Rung 1: Friday and Saturday nights, 24 hours
2 nights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. come to 24 hours a weekend, close to 104 in an average month. Rung 1 fits an early site, or a site down to its punch list, with rented equipment and fuel on it, keys pulled every evening, 1 gate that locks and no losses so far.
Rung 2: Add Sunday night, 36 hours
A 3rd night brings the weekend to 36 hours, about 156 a month. Climb to it when the site gets a 2nd gate, when a loss goes on record, or when a delivery is going to sit on site over the weekend.
Copper marks the line between rung 2 and every night. Once wire, switchgear or HVAC units stay on site through the week, cover all 7 nights with overnight construction site security, which puts all 3 weekend nights under an officer.
From 2020 through 2024, 6,522 agencies reported 81,180 incidents to the FBI involving stolen non-precious metal, a category that includes copper, aluminum and steel. Construction sites were the location in 9,488 of them, or 11.7%. Closer to home, the price is up. In an Oct 13, 2026 ABC13 report, Sgt. Bob Carson, who leads HPD’s metal theft division, put copper at over $5 a pound at Houston scrap yards, against $4.20 to $4.50 a year earlier. He said cases were running ahead of the same point in 2025.
Rung 3: Friday 6 p.m. to Monday 6 a.m., 60 hours
A single continuous post covers the full 60 hours, about 260 a month. Climb to it for Saturday subs or deliveries, a site that faces a busy road, a loss that happened in daylight, or a builder’s risk policy with a watchperson condition. A condition like that can reach weeknights too, so pair rung 3 with nightly coverage when your policy has one.
The monthly figures use 4.33 weeks a month, which is 52 weeks divided by 12. Rung 3 is 2.5 times the hours of rung 1. Start Friday’s shift 30 minutes before your last crew leaves, so the officer takes the gate from a person instead of a padlock. That adds 30 minutes to any rung.
The Friday-night rule
If the budget covers 2 nights, buy Friday and Saturday. Drop Sunday before you drop Friday.
A Sunday-night loss turns up within 12 hours, when your Monday crew opens the gate. A Friday-night loss sits 48 to 60 hours, and every one of those hours is lead time for whoever has your equipment. The exception is a site with a crew on it every Saturday. There, the Saturday crew finds a Friday-night loss by morning, and Saturday and Sunday nights both sit on whatever close-out the last Saturday sub left behind. Buy Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday crews reset your Friday close-out
Once anyone opens your gate on a weekend, Friday’s close-out stops counting. The gate and every container need checking again after that crew leaves, keys included.
Our officer runs the 9-point last-truck-out check at the start of every post, so Friday’s lockup gets checked the evening it happens. A Saturday crew undoes that work. On a build that’s behind, Saturday is when a drywall sub comes in to make up a rain day or a supplier drops a load of conduit at 10 a.m. Each of them opens the gate, and whoever closes it at 2 p.m. Saturday is rarely the superintendent who closed it Friday.
The weekend access list
Send it by Friday noon. For each person: name, company, vehicle and plate, hours on site, and who on your team approved them. Anyone missing from the list stays at the gate until your weekend on-call contact clears them by phone. We staff English- and Spanish-speaking officers, so a mixed crew can be checked in either language.
A camera can record a Saturday sub driving off with the gate open. It can’t close the gate. Security guards vs remote video monitoring covers where cameras fit on a site and where they fall short.
Who gets the call at 1 a.m. on a Saturday
Write the call order down before the first shift. Your project manager is off and your superintendent’s phone is on silent, so the call tree decides how fast anything happens.
- Dispatch calls your weekend on-call contact, then the backup.
- Police response depends on the address: HPD inside Houston city limits, another city’s police department, or a county sheriff or constable. The post order names the agency for your site.
If your company rotates weekend on-call, send that name with the access list every Friday. A call tree with last week’s superintendent on it rings the wrong phone.
Read your builder's risk policy for a security condition
Some builder’s risk policies make security a condition of coverage. IRMI’s sample endorsement wording reads: “You agree to maintain, at your expense, a watchperson at the indicated premise(s) at night and during non-working hours.” Another sample calls for “regular patrols of the job site during all nonworking hours.” In IRMI’s example, breaking a condition like that means coverage for loss from fire, theft or vandalism “is automatically suspended.”
On a site with no weekend crew, wording like this can treat the whole weekend as non-working hours, daylight included. It reaches weeknights as well, so a weekend post on its own may not satisfy it. Have your broker read the security wording before you pick a rung. If the policy has a condition, our GPS round log is the timestamped record of when an officer was on site.

What a weekend costs
Weekend cost is your rung’s hours times the hourly rate. In an average month that’s about 104 hours for rung 1, 156 for rung 2 and 260 for rung 3, so pick the rung before you look at the rate.
A weekend rate can run higher than a weekday rate, and that’s a pricing choice. The U.S. Department of Labor says the FLSA doesn’t require extra pay for weekend work.
Terms run by the week, so 1 weekend is a normal order. For wages, payroll taxes and overtime, see what a Houston security guard costs in 2026.

Other sites that close on Friday
A distribution warehouse with no weekend dock shift, or an office building that locks up Friday evening, sits through the same 60-hour block. The ladder works the same way there, with the rounds moved to the dock doors, the trailer yard and the ground-floor entries. Warehouse security in Houston covers dock posts.
Who stands your weekend post
A licensed officer from a company you can look up before you sign. Reliable Guard & Patrol Service Inc. has held Texas DPS company license B07315701 since 2018, and the state’s TOPS license search shows it. Our weekend security guards work under the same account supervisors and GPS reporting as our construction site security in Houston.
Book a Level II unarmed officer for the gate, the access list, the rounds and the report. Book a Level III commissioned officer, who is armed, for high-value assets or after a violent incident or armed threat on the site. Every officer clears our 6-Point Officer Standard first, fingerprint background check and drug test included.
Workers’ compensation, general liability and commercial auto policies stand behind every post, and your certificate of insurance goes out the day you ask.
What we don’t staff: fire watch, K-9, alarm response, parking enforcement, or residential, HOA and event work.
Frequently Asked Questions
What hours does weekend coverage run?
The hours you set. A full-weekend post runs from your last crew out on Friday to your first crew in on Monday, which is 60 hours on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. schedule. Nights-only coverage runs 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the nights you pick.
If I can only afford 2 nights, which 2?
Friday and Saturday, unless a crew works your site every Saturday. A Friday-night loss sits 48 to 60 hours before anyone finds it, and a Sunday-night loss turns up when your crew arrives Monday. With a Saturday crew, buy Saturday and Sunday instead.
Do you cover holiday weekends?
Yes. We staff posts 24/7, holidays included. A Monday holiday makes the full-weekend post 84 hours, and Thanksgiving week can run 108 if your site closes Thursday and Friday.
Will weekend coverage satisfy my builder's risk policy?
That depends on the wording, so ask your broker. Some policies require a watchperson “at night and during non-working hours.” That wording reaches weeknights as well, so a weekend post on its own may not meet it. Our GPS round log shows when an officer was on site.
