The 3 Things That Decide Tonight
Availability is ours. Access and post definition are yours. Most same-day requests that stall do not stall on availability.
Availability. We run about 150 registered officers and cover more than 100 active sites, so an unarmed post in the inner metro is normally a scheduling question. Armed is narrower, and section 5 explains why.
Access. An officer who arrives at a locked gate with nobody answering the phone is a billed hour that protects nothing. This is the single most common reason a same-day post starts late.
Post definition. Not a document. One sentence about what the officer is there to do. “Nobody comes through the north gate after 6 p.m. without being on the list I am about to text you” is a workable post. “Keep an eye on the place” is not, and it is how officers end up making judgment calls they should not have to make at 2 a.m.
The Site-Ready Check
6 things from you and a same-day post starts clean. Miss items 1 or 2 and it does not start at all, whatever we promised on the phone.
1. A name and mobile number that answers tonight. Not the office line. Not a shared inbox. One person who will pick up between the officer’s arrival and sunrise.
2. How the officer physically gets in. Gate code, key handoff, a person meeting them, or an unlocked exterior post. Say which. If it is a key handoff, say where and from whom.
3. The post in one sentence. What the officer is there to stop or to verify. Written in your words, not ours.
4. Your additional insured wording, if you need it. Send the exact text your lease, lender or general contractor requires. We issue the certificate of insurance the same day, and it goes out right the first time when we have the wording up front.
5. Where the officer parks, and where the restroom is. On a 12-hour overnight post this is not a courtesy question. An officer who has to leave the site to find a restroom has left the site.
6. Who gets called, in what order. Your first call, your backup, and who is allowed to authorize contacting police. On a long-term contract this gets worked out over a week. On a same-day post you have about 20 minutes, so decide it before the shift instead of during the incident.

How Far Same-Day Reaches Across Houston
Our office sits on the Southwest Freeway inside Beltway 8, so same-day is not one promise across the metro.
The figures below are map miles from 7324 Southwest Fwy to the middle of each area. They are not drive times. On a 4 p.m. call, US-59 inbound and I-45 north are the constraint rather than the mileage.
The closest ring runs 3.6 to 5.5 miles and covers Bellaire, the Galleria and Uptown, and Greenway Plaza. That is the shortest same-day window we run. Still on our side of town, a little further out, sit the Medical Center at 7.2 miles, Sugar Land at 9.0, the Energy Corridor at 9.2 and Downtown at 9.9.
Read those last 3 numbers again if you are comparing vendors. Sugar Land and the Energy Corridor are closer to this office than Downtown is. A company with a downtown address is not automatically closer to you.
Pearland at 16.9 miles and Katy at 19.3 normally work for a same-day post. Call earlier in the day rather than later. Humble at 25.6 and Spring at 26.8 depend on the hour and on which officers are already working north when you call.
Then the far edge. The Woodlands is 32.2 miles out and Conroe is 42.3, which is 12 times the distance of Bellaire. Same-day up there is a real question rather than a given. Tell us early and we will tell you straight.

Armed Tonight Is An Availability Question
Unarmed tonight is usually scheduling. Armed tonight depends on whether a commissioned officer is free, because that pool is smaller than the unarmed one.
Texas also does not let anyone shortcut it. Armed work requires an active commission before the shift, and no amount of urgency changes that. The licensing detail sits on our temporary and short-term guard coverage page.
What that means practically: if you need armed tonight and no commissioned officer is available in your zone, the useful answer is an unarmed post now with a written escalation order, and the armed officer on the next shift. We will say that rather than take the booking and send whoever is free.
What The First Night Can And Cannot Do
A same-day officer arrives without a site assessment, without written post orders and without knowing what normal looks like on your property. So night 1 buys deterrence and a record. It does not buy pattern recognition, and any company that tells you otherwise is selling.
Here is what you get on the first shift. A marked presence during the hours you are exposed. Access control against the one sentence you gave us. Timestamped rounds. A written report in the morning covering what the officer found and anything that changed.
Here is what you do not get yet. An officer who knows which 3 cars belong in the back lot, which side door never latches properly, or that the cleaning contractor turns up at 5 a.m. on Tuesdays. That knowledge takes 3 or 4 shifts on the same site, and it is most of what makes a standing post better than a new one.
By the third or fourth shift the picture changes. The site assessment is done. Post orders are written from what the officer actually found rather than from what you could describe over the phone. Checkpoints are placed where they are useful. Where scheduling allows, it is the same officer.
Which is why the first call should include one more thing: tell us whether this is one night or the start of something. If your exposure really is a single night, a lockout, a broken door, a crew that walked off, then night 1 is the whole product and you are done. If it runs longer, saying so on the first call gets the assessment scheduled instead of skipped.

Can you start tonight if nobody can meet the officer at the site?
Sometimes, if the post is exterior only and you can give us a gate code or leave a key somewhere specific. If the post requires interior access and nobody can let the officer in, tonight will not work and we will tell you that on the call.
I need this to continue past tonight. What changes?
The first shift runs on the sentence you give us over the phone. By the third or fourth, there is a site assessment behind it and post orders written from what the officer found. Say on the first call that it is ongoing and the assessment gets scheduled rather than skipped.
Can I get an armed officer tonight?
Only if a commissioned officer is free in your zone. If not, the answer is an unarmed post tonight with a written escalation order and armed on the next shift.
How do I check that you are actually licensed before I pay anybody?
