Armed and unarmed security guards in The Heights, Houston

Reliable Guard & Patrol Service Inc. staffs armed and unarmed security officers on commercial property in Houston Heights. Our leadership has run security operations in Texas for more than 20 years. The company has held Texas DPS license B07315701 since 2018, and today fields 150 officers across more than 100 active sites. We cover retail on 19th Street, construction and renovation work through the historic district, warehouses on the industrial edge, and vacant commercial buildings between Yale and Studewood. We do not take residential, HOA, or event work.

Officers deploy on foot or by vehicle, set by what the site needs. Heights commercial property sits tight against residential streets, so patrol routes have to work around narrow lots, alley access, and after-hours foot traffic near 19th Street and Heights Boulevard. We run armed officers, unarmed officers, and mobile patrol. Every assignment opens with a site walk that maps access points, lighting gaps, and the hours you actually need covered. We do not run random drive-by patrols.

Officer duties cover access control, visitor and delivery verification, documented patrol rounds, incident reporting, and emergency response. Armed officers hold a Texas security officer commission and requalify on firearm proficiency every two years. Unarmed officers hold Level 2 certification. Every officer clears a background check, drug testing, license verification, an interview, and reference checks before deployment. Many of our officers work in English and Spanish. We do not provide K-9 units, alarm response, parking enforcement, or fire watch.

License, insurance, and coverage hours

Reliable Guard & Patrol Service Inc. holds Texas DPS company license B07315701, issued in 2018. We carry general liability, workers compensation, and commercial auto coverage. Ask for a certificate of insurance and you get it the same day.

We staff construction sites, warehouses and distribution centers, office buildings, shopping centers, retail stores, and vacant commercial buildings. Construction and warehouse work is the bulk of what we do. Our office is at 7324 Southwest Freeway in Houston. Phones are staffed 24 hours a day, every day, including holidays.

Response is same day. The process is short: one call, a free written proposal, a site walk where the property calls for one, then officers on site.

Contracts, insurance, and how fast we start

We do not require a long term contract. That is the question we get most, and the answer is no.

Terms run weekly, month to month, short term, or long term, set by what the site needs. A Heights renovation job that runs eleven weeks gets eleven weeks of coverage. You are not signing a year to get an officer on site next week.

We carry general liability, workers compensation, and commercial auto insurance. Request a certificate of insurance and it goes out the same day, which matters when a general contractor will not let you mobilize without one.

Getting started in The Heights takes three steps. One call. A free written proposal. A site walk where the property calls for one. Then officers on site.

Officers work 40 hour schedules, with part time coverage available for shorter or split shifts. Every contract gets an assigned account supervisor who checks on officers while they are on your site.

Security patterns across The Heights

The Heights is not one security problem. It is five, and they sit within a mile of each other.

The 19th Street retail corridor runs storefront retail with heavy evening foot traffic. Shops here back onto residential alleys, which is where after-hours entry attempts and vandalism tend to start. Unarmed foot patrol works well on this stretch because visible presence is the deterrent, and an officer who knows which doors face an alley is worth more than a camera pointed at the street.

Heights Boulevard and the surrounding historic district carry constant renovation and infill construction. Historic district review means those jobs run long, and a long job is an extended window for tool, lumber, and appliance theft from lots with no perimeter fence. We staff the construction site itself. We do not provide residential or HOA security for the homes around it.

The Yale Street and Studewood corridors hold small Heights offices and mixed commercial buildings, mostly single-tenant, mostly unstaffed overnight. These sites usually need access point coverage and documented patrol rounds rather than a full-time post.

The industrial edge along the rail line and White Oak Bayou runs warehouses and distribution space. Copper, cabling, and equipment are the targets here, and loading docks after hours are the exposure. Three of the five incidents further down this page came off sites like these.

Vacant commercial buildings between redevelopment cycles are the fifth pattern and the hardest one to leave alone. A Heights building sitting empty through permitting draws copper theft, squatters, and fire risk. Documented patrol rounds on a vacant Heights property are usually what an insurer wants to see.

Response into The Heights runs off I-10 and 610, which is why same-day response is realistic here rather than a slogan.

Documented incidents from our Houston sites

These are five incidents our officers documented on Houston commercial sites. The Heights sits inside the same operation, staffed by the same officers, under the same reporting. Times and outcomes come from the officer reports.

Construction site, 2:15 a.m. Attempted access stopped.

An officer on perimeter patrol saw a pickup circling the site, then stop near a gated entrance while the occupants studied access points. The officer switched on the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and moved toward the gate. The truck left. The officer logged the vehicle description and notified site management. No property was lost.

Construction site, 11:40 p.m. Materials theft stopped.

An officer saw two people carrying construction materials toward the perimeter fence in an unlit section of the site. He lit the area with a spotlight and challenged them. Both dropped the materials and ran. The officer secured the area, recovered the materials, and called law enforcement and site management. An inventory check confirmed nothing left the site.

Construction site, 3:30 a.m. Copper wire theft stopped, suspect arrested.

On a scheduled patrol an officer found a temporary storage container had been tampered with, then saw someone pulling rolls of copper wire out of it. He called law enforcement, held visual contact from a safe distance, and fed updates to dispatch. The suspect dropped the wire and tried to run when police arrived, and was arrested on scene. The wire went back to site management.

Vacant commercial building, 1:45 a.m. Forced entry stopped.

An officer on patrol saw two people trying to pry open a boarded rear window. He notified dispatch and law enforcement, kept watch from a safe distance, and switched on the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights. Both left before getting inside. The window covering took minor damage and nothing was taken.

Distribution warehouse, 11:20 p.m. Unauthorized access stopped.

An officer on perimeter patrol found an unauthorized vehicle parked near the loading docks after hours, with someone trying to get into a secured storage area beside the dock doors. The officer notified dispatch and the site supervisor, identified himself, and directed the person off the restricted area. The person complied and left. A follow-up check of dock doors, gates, and access points found no forced entry and no missing inventory.

Every one of those was logged in our GPS guard tour system against a time-stamped patrol round and a written incident report. Heights site managers receive those reports rather than a verbal summary at shift change.

Commissioned and non-commissioned officers, and which one your site needs

The difference is whether the officer is armed. Non-commissioned officers are unarmed and hold Level 2 certification. Commissioned officers are armed and hold a Texas security officer commission.

A non-commissioned officer patrols the property, monitors access points, verifies visitors and deliveries, observes and reports, responds to incidents, and files the written report. That covers most Heights retail, office, and warehouse sites.

A commissioned officer does all of that with an armed presence. Sites that usually call for one: cash handling operations, high value equipment or materials, and any property with a history of violent incidents. Commissioned officers requalify on firearm proficiency every two years.

Security officers are not peace officers and do not carry police powers. If you are not sure which level your Heights property needs, we will tell you when unarmed coverage is enough rather than selling you the more expensive option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you require a long term contract?
No. Terms run weekly, month to month, short term, or long term. You pick the length that matches the site.

Do you cover The Heights specifically?
Yes. Houston Heights sits inside our Houston service area, along with Downtown, the Texas Medical Center, the Energy Corridor, Katy, Spring, Humble, The Woodlands, Conroe, Sugar Land, and Pearland.

Should I choose armed or unarmed officers?
Unarmed covers most Heights retail, office, and warehouse sites. Armed makes sense for cash handling, high value assets, and any property with a history of violent incidents. We will say so when unarmed coverage is enough.

Can I get a certificate of insurance?
Same day. We carry general liability, workers compensation, and commercial auto insurance.

How do I know officers actually patrolled?
We run a GPS guard tour system. You get time-stamped patrol rounds on your Heights property, written incident reports, and supervisor check-ins rather than a verbal summary at the end of the shift.

Do you handle residential, HOA, or event security?
No. We staff commercial property only: construction sites, warehouses and distribution centers, office buildings, shopping centers, retail stores, and vacant commercial buildings. In The Heights that means we cover the construction site, not the homes around it. We also do not provide K-9 units, alarm response, parking enforcement, or fire watch.

Are your officers licensed and screened?
Reliable Guard & Patrol Service Inc. holds Texas DPS company license B07315701, issued in 2018. Every officer clears a background check, drug testing, license verification, an interview, and reference checks before deployment.

Do you have Spanish speaking officers?
Yes. Many of our officers work in English and Spanish.
